Kolkata: Child in Need Institute (CINI), one of India’s leading non-governmental organisations, celebrated its 52nd Foundation Day at its Cyril Academy campus, a unique nature-based residential school located on the southern outskirts of Kolkata. The occasion was marked by the presence of four adolescent boys and girls from four different Indian states, who attended as chief guests, symbolising CINI’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusion.

The event was graced by several eminent dignitaries, including Shri Dilip Mandal, Minister of State for Transport, Government of West Bengal; Smt. Tulika Bose, Chairperson, West Bengal State Child Protection Commission; and Advisor Smt. Ananya Chakraborty Chatterjee, along with other distinguished guests.

Over the past 52 years, CINI has reached nearly one crore people across eight states, working extensively in the areas of maternal, child and adolescent health, nutrition, education, child protection and environmental sustainability.

A key highlight of the Foundation Day was the launch of CINI’s new preventive healthcare initiative, ‘Shubhayu’, inaugurated by Dr. Indrani Bhattacharya, CEO, CINI. The initiative focuses on early detection and prevention in response to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases. As part of the programme, free screening for blood sugar, blood pressure and other basic health parameters was conducted for attendees.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Dilip Mandal spoke about his long-standing association with CINI and commended the organisation’s wide-reaching impact, particularly in underserved and remote communities.

CINI also honoured several organisations and individuals for exemplary social contributions, including Shri Irfan Mollah Hosain, Shri Satyabrata Shamal, Dumdum Municipality, Arogya World, Smt. Jyotsna Halder, and 15 ‘Kavach-Mothers’ for their role in child drowning prevention initiatives.

Founder Secretary Dr. Samir Chaudhuri presented CINI’s Annual Report for 2024–25, outlining the organisation’s roadmap and continued commitment to advancing community health and child welfare across India.
