Baruipur, 22nd December 2025: With the growing incidence of gastrointestinal disorders, kidney-related diseases, and complex cardiac conditions in Eastern India, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, of one of the largest healthcare providers of Eastern India, the Manipal Hospitals Group, organised an interactive awareness session under its flagship initiative, ‘Anveshana – Medical Education for Media’, at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas today. The session featured Dr. Saurav Mukherjee from the Department of Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; Dr. Rohit Rungta, Consultant – Nephrology, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; and Dr. Debopriyo Mondal, Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, who shared expert insights on the rising burden of digestive disorders, kidney diseases, and cardiac conditions in the region. The doctors discussed evolving disease patterns, lifestyle-linked risk factors, the importance of early diagnosis, and advancements in minimally invasive gastroenterology, advanced nephrology care, and interventional cardiac procedures. Emphasis was laid on how timely medical intervention and access to specialised care can significantly improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients.
Rooted in the Sanskrit term meaning “seeking and discovering,” Anveshana reflects Manipal Hospitals’ commitment to collaborative learning, responsible health communication, and community awareness. The initiative has previously been conducted in Tamluk, Contai, Bardhaman, Jamshedpur, Aizawl, Malda, Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Bolpur and now reaches Baruipur, where doctors helped simplify key medical information, dispel common myths across specialties. Together, these initiatives reaffirm the organisation’s commitment to enhancing patient outcomes and ensuring timely access to specialist care in remote regions.
Speaking on the increasing prevalence of kidney-related disorders, Dr. Rohit Rungta said, “Chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and lifestyle-related renal conditions such as diabetic nephropathy and hypertension-induced kidney damage are rising steadily across Eastern India. Many patients remain asymptomatic in the early stages, leading to delayed diagnosis and progression to advanced disease. At Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, our Nephrology department follows a comprehensive and patient-centric approach that integrates advanced diagnostics, dialysis services, critical care nephrology, and preventive renal care. Early detection, appropriate medical management, and lifestyle modification play a crucial role in slowing disease progression and improving long-term renal outcomes.”
Highlighting the growing burden of gastrointestinal disorders, Dr. Saurav Mukherjee shared, “Gastrointestinal diseases such as fatty liver disease, acid reflux, peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver-related conditions are becoming increasingly common due to changing food habits, sedentary lifestyles, and rising stress levels. Many of these conditions progress silently until complications arise. At Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, our Gastroenterology team offers advanced endoscopic procedures, high-precision diagnostics, and evidence-based medical management to ensure early diagnosis and effective treatment. With minimally invasive interventions and comprehensive digestive care, we aim to provide safe, timely, and personalised gastro solutions for patients across the region.”
Speaking on the evolving landscape of cardiac care, Dr. Debopriyo Mondal said, “Eastern India is witnessing a steady rise in complex cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, structural heart disorders, valvular heart disease, and rhythm abnormalities. Early diagnosis combined with timely, minimally invasive interventions is crucial in reducing disease burden and improving survival and quality of life. At Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, our Interventional Cardiology team is equipped to offer the entire spectrum of advanced catheter-based therapies—from routine angioplasty and stent implantation to high-end, cutting-edge procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), complex coronary interventions, and other advanced treatments. These minimally invasive approaches enable quicker recovery, reduced hospital stay, and superior long-term cardiac outcomes for patients.”
The session concluded with an interactive discussion on preventive healthcare, early symptom recognition, and the importance of timely medical consultation for gastrointestinal, renal, and cardiac conditions. The doctors also highlighted that advanced medical and surgical services ranging from specialised gastroenterology and nephrology care to modern interventional cardiology are now readily accessible within West Bengal, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for quality treatment. The programme also witnessed the launch of the Media Privilege Card, aimed at facilitating smoother access to hospital services and information for journalists, thereby strengthening collaborative healthcare communication across the region.
