Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri Turns the Tables with High Court Relief on The Bengal Files FIRs Filed by Mamata Banerjee’s TMC Workers

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, who is currently in the USA for the world premiere of his much-awaited film, The Bengal Files. The film and the makers recently found themselves at the center of controversy. Several members of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) filed multiple FIRs in West Bengal against the film and its makers, Vivek Agnihotri, Pallavi Joshi, and producer Abhishek Agarwal. They accused them of showing controversial content in the movie.
However, the tide has now turned in Agnihotri’s and the film’s favor. The High Court has heard their plea and granted interim relief by putting a temporary stay on the FIRs. This move is being seen as a strong and fitting reply from Agnihotri’s side as the makers continue to stand by their film. The court’s decision brings a moment of relief for the team, including Vivek, Pallabi Joshi, and Abhisek Agarwal, amid the rising political tension surrounding The Bengal Files.

The FIR filed at Lake Town Police Station against The Bengal Files has been put on hold. Justice Jay Sengupta has stayed in all related proceedings, ordering that no action be taken against Vivek Agnihotri and others until August 26. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 19.

The teaser of The Bengal Files has created quite a buzz, grabbing widespread attention for the exposure of the hidden history. Known for his deep research and bold storytelling, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s upcoming film has reportedly left Mamata Banerjee’s party uneasy about possible revelations. The makers had earlier clarified that the film is based on extensive research. Meanwhile, Vivek Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi are currently on a U.S. tour, which began on July 19 and ends on August 10.

The Bengal Files is written by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar. The film, presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha Productions, is part of Vivek’s Files trilogy, which includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. The film will arrive in theatres on September 5, 2025.
