This Durga Pujo, JSW Dulux Brings a Fresh Coat of Colour to a 250-Year-Old Kolkata Badi

Through the third edition of Let’s Colour, Kundu Bari’s restored spaces reconnect the family with the memories and traditions that define their Pujo celebrations

Kolkata, October 17, 2026: As the city counts down to Durga Puja, one of its oldest family homes is getting ready to welcome Ma Durga once more. Kundu Bari, a nearly 250-year-old Badi still held by descendants of the original family, has been revitalised through the third edition of JSW Dulux’s Let’s Colour initiative , so that generations of the family can celebrate Pujo in a home as vibrant as their memories of it.

For the Kundu family, Pujo has always meant coming home. Kundu Bari is one of the few heritage Badis in Kolkata still held by descendants of the original family, and a living cultural space where generations continue to uphold their Durga Puja traditions. Beyond its architecture, the Badi holds memories of childhood celebrations, family gatherings and the rituals that bring everyone home each year. With the festive season approaching, ‘Let’s Colour’ seeks to restore not just the appearance of the home but also the warmth and character of a space deeply connected to the family’s cultural identity.

Over the years, the Badi had naturally begun to show its age, with fading colours across its walls, courtyards and the Thakur Dalan, a traditional courtyard shrine space where the family welcomes the Durga idol. The restoration, using Dulux Dustproof Hi-Sheen Premium Acrylic Exterior Emulsion, has given the Badi a rich, lustrous finish in time for Pujo. Dustshield Technology helps keep surfaces cleaner through the festive footfall, anti-algal and anti-fungal properties protect against growth in Kolkata’s humid climate, and 5 Degree Sun Reflect helps the walls stay cooler. The restoration also incorporates intricate Alpana artwork, a distinctive expression of Bengal’s artistic heritage that complements the authentic character of the traditional Bengali Badi.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Rajiv Rajgopal, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Dulux Limited, said “At JSW Dulux, we believe in using our expertise and the power of colour to create meaningful change, and through our iconic Let’s Colour initiative, we bring this belief to life by transforming spaces and communities. In our previous editions in Jodhpur and Spiti, we saw how colour and our products could help transform communities and preserve their unique identities, under extreme weather conditions. With this third edition in Kolkata, we are continuing that journey by helping restore a living legacy and the heritage it represents.”

Ms. Vandana Krishnia, Chief Marketing Officer, JSW Dulux Limited, said , “Bringing the initiative to Kolkata just ahead of Durga Puja was particularly meaningful, as a Badi is not just a home but a space where generations come together to celebrate, preserve traditions and create memories. Through the restoration of Kundu Bari and the activities planned around the festive season, we wanted to celebrate its renewed beauty and create an immersive experience that brings its cultural essence to life.”

The campaign follows the Badi from its faded pre-restoration state to its renewed avatar during Pujo. Through intimate conversations with the Kundu family, it captures how colour has brought new energy to the home and revived memories of childhood Pujo celebrations. At its heart is the thought that while a home may naturally show its age, colour can bring back the memories and emotions associated with it. The restored Thakur Dalan, welcoming the Durga idol and generations of the family, brings this idea to life, celebrating the enduring connection between home, heritage and tradition.

Through Let’s Colour, JSW Dulux continues to demonstrate that the power of colour can extend beyond surfaces, to revive meaningful spaces, preserve their character and strengthen people’s connection with the places, memories and communities they call their own.
