Nataraj Nrityalaya Chinsura recently hosted the 3rd edition of the Nataraj Nritya Mahotsav at the DhonoDhanyo Auditorium, a vibrant celebration of dance that brought together talented performers from rural Bengal. The event aimed to provide a stage for dancers from various districts and villages who typically face challenges in accessing city platforms.

The festival was a spectacular display of dance from across Bengal, featuring performances from areas like New Jalpaiguri, Durgapur, Asansol, and Hooghly. The initiative, which has become a hallmark for nurturing local talent, was attended by several eminent personalities from the world of dance, including Bharatnatyam Guru Khagendranath Barman, Dr. Arkadev Bhattacharya, Mr. Kumar Kariappa from Karnataka, renowned dancer Malobika Sen, Mr. Utpal Kundu, and Odissi expert Sri Shib Narayan Bannerjee.

Paromita Mondal, the founder and organizer of Nataraj Nrityalaya, shared the vision behind the event, stating, “We, along with other dance schools, crowdfund to organize this event each year. We want to provide opportunities for dancers from rural areas and are looking for government support to help expand and elevate this cultural initiative.”

This year’s Mahotsav highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting traditional dance forms from grassroots levels.
