Kolkata, 12 September 2025: The inaugural day of KOLKATAWOOD 2025 witnessed an enthusiastic opening at the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, marking a milestone moment for Eastern India’s woodworking, furniture, and mattress sectors. Organised by NürnbergMesse India, the exhibition is the newest chapter in the 25-year legacy of IndiaWood, one of the world’s largest platforms for woodworking and furniture manufacturing technologies.

Voices from the Inauguration
Speaking at the event, Smt. Vandana Yadav, IAS (Managing Director, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation; Principal Secretary, Industry Department, and CEO, WB Trade Promotion Organisation), underlined the state’s growing importance in India’s industrial map.

‘West Bengal offers immense potential with its strong infrastructure push, rising investments, and skilled workforce. The robust demand in the wood and furniture market makes the state an attractive hub for manufacturing and trade. Platforms like KolkataWood will play a crucial role in connecting global innovation to our regional opportunities.

We are glad to welcome NürnbergMesse India and hope they will bring in many more exhibitions and events to Bengal.”

Gabriele Manig, Deputy Consul General, German Consulate, highlighted the significance of international collaboration and the strategic role of NürnbergMesse in expanding into Eastern India.

“It is encouraging to see a leading organiser like NürnbergMesse make its foray into the eastern market through KolkataWood. This will strengthen Indo-German business ties and accelerate the growth of the woodworking and furniture sector here.”

A Platform with Purpose
KOLKATAWOOD 2025 features 150+ leading brands showcasing pioneering machinery, new-age materials, modern design solutions, and next-gen mattress technologies. Live demos, B2B matchmaking, and skilling workshops are enabling industry professionals – from manufacturers and saw millers to architects and designers – to explore new opportunities and collaborations.

The Kolkatawood edition comes at a time when real estate growth, rising disposable incomes, and rapid urbanisation are fuelling demand for modern housing, ergonomic furniture, and high-quality lifestyle products in Kolkata and across Eastern India.

Legacy and the Road Ahead
Celebrating 25 years of IndiaWood, the launch of KolkataWood represents both continuity and innovation — building on the established platforms in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, while creating a dedicated hub for Eastern India’s growth story

“With industry giants, investors, and global technology leaders already showing strong interest in the region, KolkataWood is set to be more than an exhibition — it is a catalyst for growth, collaboration, and industrial transformation in Eastern India”, said Ms. Sonia Prashar, Managing Director and Chairperson of the Board, NürnbergMesse India.

The exhibition continues until 14 September 2025, with sessions, showcases, and business interactions designed to power the next wave of growth for the sector
