Jan Kalyan Trust Strengthens Access to Education with New Scholarship Initiative

Kolkata, January 14, 2026: Jan Kalyan Trust, a registered charitable organisation committed to inclusive social development, organised a Scholarship Distribution Ceremony at Lok Bhawan, Kolkata, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to promoting education among students from economically weaker sections.

The event was graced by His Excellency Shri C.V. Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal. Symbolically distributed scholarships to five meritorious students, recognising their academic excellence and perseverance despite financial challenges.

The ceremony marked the formal launch of Jan Kalyan Trust’s ₹25 lakh education support initiative, designed to benefit nearly 50 deserving students through one-time grants and scholarships. The initiative aims to reduce financial barriers to education and empower students to pursue higher studies and career aspirations with confidence.

The beneficiaries honoured during the programme included Junita Jaiswal, an MSc (Physics) student from Ramakrishna Mission; Suvam Biswas, a first-year B.Com student of City College; Saumya Mawndia, a Class XI student and NCC cadet from Kendriya Vidyalaya; Roshni Agarwal, a high-achieving Class X board student in Hindi; and Unnati Sharma, a Class VII student from Maheswari Girls’ School, who received continued scholarship support.

Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Shri C.V. Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, said, “Education lays the foundation for a progressive and inclusive society. Initiatives such as these play a crucial role in nurturing talent, ensuring equal opportunities, and empowering young minds to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.”

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kunal Patodia, Treasurer, Jan Kalyan Trust, said, “Education is the most powerful tool for social transformation. Through this initiative, the Trust seeks to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the academic journey of meritorious students, thereby contributing to nation-building.”

Established in 1996, Jan Kalyan Trust is registered under the Income Tax Act, 1961, with Section 12A registration and Section 80G approval. The Trust actively works across education, skill development, livelihood promotion, and women and child empowerment, with a focus on uplifting marginalised communities.
