Kolkata, 26th November 2024: With Christmas just around the corner, the festive spirit is in full swing as GNIHM (Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management), a JIS Group Educational Initiative, organised its annual Traditional Cake Mixing Ceremony, “Merry Mixing,” at the GNIHM premises.
This vibrant event, was graced by renowned celebrity Chef Kunal Kapur and other eminent dignitaries, celebrated the age-old tradition of cake mixing, which has transcended its Christian origins to become a cherished festive ritual across India.
The ceremony brought together students, faculty, and staff members to prepare for the Christmas season. They collectively mixed an assortment of dry fruits, including almonds, raisins, orange peel, lemon peel, dates, dried apricots, figs, walnuts, cashews, and pistachios. These ingredients were soaked in a blend of liquor, allowing them to ferment over the next month to create the perfect base for traditional Christmas plum cakes. The ceremony was a lively affair, combining tradition, fun, and culinary skill-building. It also provided students with valuable insights into the cultural and technical aspects of festive baking, a vital part of their hospitality education.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Simarpreet Singh, Director of JIS Group, said, “At GNIHM, we believe in holistic learning. Events like ‘Merry Mixing’ offer our students an opportunity to understand the significance of traditions while honing their technical skills in an engaging and festive environment.”
