From a high-octane patriotic comedy to a quintessential Sooraj Barjatya musical family drama, Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming slate is a showcase of the actor’s genre-hopping journey
Ayushmann Khurrana is set to return to the big screen with two back-to-back releases that could not be more different. First comes Udta Teer, a fast-paced patriotic comedy with Sara Ali Khan, directed by Aakash Kaushik, followed by Yeh Prem Mol Liya, a musical family drama directed by Sooraj Barjatya and starring Sharvari. Two films, two distinct worlds and two very different acting challenges underscore an aspect of Ayushmann’s career evident since the beginning: his ability to move between genres without being defined by any one of them.
Directed by Aakash Kaushik and produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer is set against the world of espionage and comic chaos, with Ayushmann at the centre of an unpredictable story where nobody quite knows what is going on.
Soon after, Ayushmann will move into an entirely different cinematic universe with Yeh Prem Mol Liya. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film marks a fresh pairing with Sharvari and brings together the filmmaker’s signature emotional and family-driven storytelling with a strong musical core. With music by Himesh Reshammiya, the film sees Ayushmann return to the emotional and musical grammar of Hindi cinema, in a story centred on love, family and relationships.

I’ve never believed in being confined to one image or genre, whether it is a social comedy, an unconventional love story, an intense drama, or a musical family saga, every film gives me an opportunity to explore a new emotion and reveal a different side of myself.
