Kolkata, March 1st, 2025– The second edition of the French Film Festival Kolkata, a collaborative initiative by Alliance française du Bengale and Nandan: West Bengal Film Centre, in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Kolkata, concluded on a high note with a spectacular closing ceremony on March 1st, 2025. The festival, which showcased over 80 plus films from both French and Indian cinema, successfully reinforced its position as a vital cultural bridge between the two nations.
The closing ceremony, held at Nandan, was an evening of celebration, reflecting on the festival’s journey and its impact on cinephiles and industry professionals alike. Dignitaries, filmmakers, and artists gathered to honour the finest cinematic contributions and engage in thought-provoking discussions on Indo-French collaborations. The event highlighted the growing exchange of artistic ideas, further strengthening cultural ties between India and France.
Throughout the festival, attendees experienced an eclectic selection of films that spanned multiple genres, offering a glimpse into the cinematic landscapes of both countries. Masterclasses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions provided invaluable insights for budding filmmakers and enthusiasts.
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Didier Talpain, Consul General of France in Kolkata, and Mr. Nicolas Facino, Director of Alliance française du Bengale & Director of the French Film Festival in Kolkata , whose invaluable support contributed to the festival’s success. Renowned Indian actress and director Ms. Nandita Das, known for her socially relevant films, and acclaimed actress Ms. Huma Qureshi, celebrated for her versatility, were also present. Veteran filmmaker Mr. Sudhir Mishra, a stalwart in Indian parallel cinema, and esteemed French author and filmmaker Mr. David Foenkinos attended, enriching discussions on Indo-French storytelling.
The event also welcomed Mr. Anjan Dutt, a multifaceted personality recognized for his contributions as an actor, director, and songwriter, alongside Ms. Rituparna Sengupta, a distinguished actress and producer with a significant impact on regional and mainstream cinema. Ms. Dechen Roder, an acclaimed filmmaker known for her work in Bhutanese cinema, brought an international perspective to the gathering. Noted casting director and filmmaker Mr. Mukesh Chhabra, who has shaped many cinematic careers, also participated in the celebrations.
Joining them was Ms. Richa Sharma, a talented actress known for her compelling performances, and Mr. Pritimoy Chakraborty, an industry veteran and Chief Advisor of 3FK, who played a pivotal role in fostering collaborations. Ms. Sharmistha Banerjee, CEO of Nandan, whose leadership has been instrumental in promoting cinema and cultural exchange, was also a key attendee.
