Fabindia unveils ‘The Song of Spring’ – a celebration of Chikankari

Published:

New Delhi, 17 April 2025: As spring unfurls its delicate bloom, Fabindia presents ‘The Song of Spring’, a heartfelt celebration of Chikankari, one of India’s most refined embroidery traditions. Inspired by the season’s gentleness, Song of Spring reinterprets the intricate art of hand embroidery using AI, to honour both heritage and modernity.

Fabindia’s latest collection takes this centuries-old artistry and weaves it into designs that resonate with today’s aesthetic sensibilities. Flowing kurtas, ethereal dupattas, and elegantly embroidered tunics breathe new life into Chikankari, using airy cottons and fine silks that echo the softness of spring. The collection stays true to tradition while embracing contemporary palettes—earthy pastels, gentle florals, and subtle tonal contrasts that highlight the meticulous needlework.

Chikankari, gaining popularity in the early 17th century, is a craft of poetic precision. This embroidery form has evolved over centuries, yet its essence remains unchanged—whisper-light stitches that create an interplay of shadow and texture. With over 32 types of stitches, a single garment can use a combination of stitches to create masterpieces. Bakhiya lends a whisper of depth and creates the illusion of a shadow, Phanda forms intricate knots and is popular for creating floral patterns, and Jaali creates delicate lattice patterns, reminiscent of Mughal architecture. These stitches, layered with the subtlest of movements, transform fabric into a canvas of understated elegance.

“The Song of Spring is more than a campaign; it is a tribute to the hands that sustain India’s textile traditions. By honouring its floral essence and displaying its intricate threadwork, we wanted to express the finery of Chikankari beyond the garment and celebrate its inspiration. Including AI crafted floral elements in the campaign visuals that accentuate the craft has brought a fresh perspective to the craft”, says a Fabindia spokesperson.

As this collection graces stores and online platforms, it invites wearers to embrace the beauty of authentic craft as confirmed by the Craftmark Tag on each garment— where every detail tells a story, and tradition meets timeless elegance.
