Cycle Rally by BIS in Digha: Women Volunteers Lead Awareness Drive on Importance of Certified Products

Digha— The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016, is organizing a Cycle Rally through its Kolkata Branch Office to raise awareness about the vital role of standards in everyday life.

The rally, took place along the sea beach of Digha, the beach city of West Bengal on 11th April 2025 at 1500 hrs. It witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 120 women volunteers who created awareness among the tourist visiting the old Digha beach. The rally was preceded by a sensitisation program of the volunteers by Shri S Dhar, Director BIS and Imon Mukherjee, Assistant Director Dept. of consumer affairs govt. of West Bengal a presentation on the benefits of procuring certified (ISI marked) goods was given by Shri M Gantait, Joint Director BIS. Shri Utkarsh Diwaker, Assistant Director BIS informed the participants about the BIS care app which can be used to verify the HUID number marked on gold jewellery so that its authenticity can be verified. The event is part of a broader initiative by BIS to highlight how standardization, certification, and quality assurance contribute to national development by ensuring the availability of safe and reliable goods, reducing health hazards, and enhancing consumer trust.

The rally aims to encourage the use of BIS-certified products, thereby promoting quality consciousness among the general public. Standards play a crucial role in fostering industrial efficiency, protecting public interest, and enabling economic growth through import substitution and the promotion of exports.

Speaking about the initiative, a BIS official said, “Standards are the backbone of a strong economy and a safe society. This rally is a step toward making consumers aware of their rights to quality and the significance of choosing certified products.”

BIS remains committed to its mission of building a robust quality ecosystem and ensuring that Indian consumers have access to products that meet the highest benchmarks of safety and performance.
