Kolkata: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Kolkata Branch Office 1, organized a sensitization program, Quality Quest Carnival, on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day 2025. The event was held at the Community Centre 4, AC Block, New Town, with the aim of raising awareness among residents about the importance of quality and safety in everyday life.
The program witnessed the active participation of 150 representatives from various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and housing societies. The inauguration was done by prominent speakers, including Shri Sabyasachi Dhar, Director & Head Kolkata Branch Office-1,BIS and Shri S. Raha, President of the ACAD Block Resident Welfare Association, who emphasized the need for quality and safety in day-to-day living.
The participants were informed about BIS care app and procedure to verify the licence number on isi marked products and HUID number on Hallmarked gold jewellery through the app
The event included a Quiz Contest focusing on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), followed by a cultural performance, which added a vibrant element to the proceedings.
It may be worth mentioning that BIS also took this opportunity to reach out to government officials at the district and state headquarters. The objective was to highlight the significance of procuring BIS-certified products in government procurement procedures. The Manak Mitra campaign, spearheaded by more than 75 BIS representatives, is working diligently in districts and state headquarters to make officials aware of the need to incorporate BIS-certified products and to support standardization and conformity assessment activities.
This initiative reinforces the importance of quality standards in ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers, creating a more reliable environment for everyone.
