Published:

A two-day show honoring Bengal’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions was successfully organized by the Bengal Home Industries Association (BHIA), one of the oldest and most reputable organizations devoted to the promotion of cottage industries, arts, and crafts.

Renowned artist Sri Gaganendra Nath Tagore served as the organization’s first Honorary Secretary. He created the Association’s first scarf with a beautiful traditional theme, which is still in the Association’s collectiontoday.

The exhibition featured a carefully curated assortment of handcrafted goods from all over the country including sarees, scarves, home décor pieces, bedspreads, jewelry, beautifully-crafted candles, Moras, hand- crafted bags, Kashmiri scarves, shawls, jacket and a wide range of dokra craft amongst others.

The Guests of Honor included Yukiko Yuasa, Bridget Vaswani and Hon Consul of Sweden Tina Nobis.

Mr Shankar Bose, Secretary of BHIA noted: “For the past 109 years, BHIA has not only promoted Handicrafts but also assisted in helping poor and marginalized artisans to develop and expand their markets. Today, we have the trademark Linecot and Roshanara Fabrics and the legendary embroidered bed linens that our clients keep buying again and again. Add to that the range of cotton and silk sarees. We are proud of our multi-generational base of customers and their unstinted support for our product lines.”

Yukiko was thrilled to see the wide range of products and promised to bring all her international friends to shop at this wonderful store.

Brinda Srinivasan said: “Bengal Home’s artisanal pieces whether it’s their pottery, textiles, or handmade accessories have a special charm. But what truly stands out is their commitment to creating real opportunities for women artisans. That impact makes their work even more meaningful.”

In order to support and grow cottage industries, provide artisans with resources and marketing skills and protect India’s cultural and artistic legacy for future generations, Bengal Home continues to work with the same commitment and altruistic vision which was perceived by its Founder members.
