From Skills to Self-Reliance

Kolkata, 26th April 2025: With the aim of making women in India economically self-reliant, Hunar Online Courses was launched six years ago by Nishtha Yogesh. A key part of this initiative is the Hunar Student Connect Center, which was officially inaugurated today, April 26, in Kolkata. The center has been established with the support of Jyoti Sharma, a former student of Hunar Online Courses, at her salon JS Women’s Era.
The center is located near Pargan Ground, Thana Road, Khardah, Kolkata. Here, homemakers and women have taken a strong step toward self-reliance. The Student Connect Center will serve as an information hub to assist women in gaining the necessary knowledge and guidance.
Vijaya Dubey, Collaboration Manager at Hunar, shared that under this initiative, women from various states across India are developing their skills in fashion, food, and beauty from the comfort of their homes. Not only are they enhancing their capabilities, but they are also building sustainable sources of income. Hunar Online Courses offers over 55 government-certified courses in these domains, all accessible through the Hunar Online Courses application. The duration of these courses ranges from three to six months, allowing women to learn at their own convenience.
Compared to other institutions, Hunar’s courses are highly affordable—with three-month courses available for just ₹3,000 and six-month courses for ₹10,000. So far, more than 50,000 women across India have completed these courses, and many have even started their own businesses. Through this initiative, women are earning between ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000 per month.
Notably, several renowned personalities such as Neeta Lulla and Shilpa Shetty Kundra are also associated with Hunar Online Courses, supporting this movement toward women’s empowerment.
