The Bengali indie band continues its Pujo romance with a fresh chapter, bringing back Soumya Mukherjee and Arunima Halder

Kolkata, October 2026: Last year, Bengali indie band Chirkut won hearts with ‘Ashtami Te Tomar Paray’, a song that quickly became one of the standout Pujo tracks of the season. With millions of views, a strong presence on Meta trends and thousands of reels, the song became a massive digital favourite, particularly among a young Bengali audience.
The music video, featuring Soumya Mukherjee and Arunima Halder, struck a chord with viewers with its charming mix of romance, fun and quintessential Bangaliana. Their on-screen chemistry made them one of the most loved young couples associated with a Bengali Pujo song, giving the track an identity that extended far beyond the music itself.
This Pujo, Chirkut is back with ‘Trendy Gaaner Story’, a brand-new track releasing on 11 October 2026, which takes the story forward from where ‘Ashtami Te Tomar Paray’ left off.
According to the band, the new song is a direct sequel to last year’s narrative, exploring how the Pujo romance has evolved over the past year. Continuing the same blend of youthful romance, humour and contemporary Bangaliana, ‘Trendy Gaaner Story’ brings the characters and their story into a new chapter that feels rooted in today’s Bengali youth culture. The music video is directed by Biswabasu Biswas, with Garai G serving as the Director of Photography, bringing a fresh visual language to the continuing story.
Much like last year, Soumya Mukherjee and Arunima Halder return as the faces of the story, bringing their much-loved chemistry back to the screen. The music video is directed by Biswabasu Biswas, who continues the visual narrative while giving the new song its own fresh identity.
Speaking about the sequel, the team of Chirkut said:
“Last year, ‘Ashtami Te Tomar Paray’ became a breakthrough moment for us, and the love we received was overwhelming. This year, we’ve taken the story forward with the same passion and even greater enthusiasm. ‘Trendy Gaaner Story’ is a continuation of that Pujo romance, and now we’re excited to see how our audience receives this new chapter.”
The new track brings together the band’s core musical team, with Debayan Banerjee handling music production and vocals, alongside Srijita Mitra and Shubham Mitra on vocals. Prameya has contributed to the lyrics and composition, while Pronoy plays bass and Sourav takes charge of the drums.
For Soumya Mukherjee, returning to the story is a continuation of a journey that began with an unexpected audience connection.
“‘Ashtami Te Tomar Paray’ became a very special part of my Pujo memories because of the love it received. Coming back with a new chapter is exciting, and I hope the audience connects with this one just as deeply.”
Arunima Halder adds:
“The response to ‘Ashtami Te Tomar Paray’ was truly overwhelming. ‘Trendy Gaaner Story’ brings a fresh energy while continuing the story we started last year, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the audience receives it.”
Two Pujo songs connected by a continuing storyline bring a refreshing sense of continuity to the Bengali independent music space. With ‘Trendy Gaaner Story’, Chirkut is not just releasing another Pujo song — they are bringing back a story audiences already know and love, and giving it a new-age twist.
As Kolkata gets ready for another season of Pujo, Chirkut’s latest offering promises a familiar mix of romance, fun, Bangaliana and Gen Z energy — with a story that doesn’t end with the last Pujo, but picks up right where it left off.
‘Trendy Gaaner Story’ releases on 11 October 2026.
