ICAI to Share Knowledge and Expertise with West Bengal MLAs on Public Financial Governance

• One-day workshop to help legislators deepen their understanding of public financial management, fiscal governance and legislative oversight
• 200+ newly elected MLAs to benefit from sessions on fiscal responsibility, financial accounting and budget management

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in its endeavour to contribute towards nation-building and strengthen public financial governance, is organising a One-Day Workshop on “Strengthening Governance in Public Financial Management: A Legislative Perspective” for the Hon’ble Members of the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal on August 18, 2026, at the ICAI Centre of Excellence, Kolkata. The programme will provide a platform to explore how stronger financial understanding can support informed legislative decision-making and contribute to better governance outcomes for citizens.

Over 200 newly elected MLAs are expected to participate and benefit from this first-of-its-kind workshop for MLAs, featuring focused sessions designed to enhance their understanding of prudent fiscal management, financial discipline and the vital role of legislative oversight in promoting informed decision-making.

The inaugural session will be graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Guest, along with Shri Rathindra Bose, Hon’ble Speaker, Legislative Assembly of West Bengal, as the Guest of Honour. Their presence will further underscore the focus of the Government towards strengthening financial understanding and legislative oversight for effective governance.

On this occasion, CA. Prasanna Kumar D, President, ICAI, said, “As a trusted partner in nation-building, ICAI is working closely with the government to fulfil the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. There is a strategic necessity of strengthening financial reporting and public financial management across all tiers of government—including local bodies. These workshops are instrumental in ensuring efficient expenditure and the optimal utilization of public funds for our citizens.”

The workshop will focus on key aspects of public financial management, including budget analysis, and government accounting which will contribute to strengthening the financial management ecosystem in the State.
