SANKARA JYOTI EYE INSTITUTE TO LAUNCH DIABETIC RETINOPATHY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT RAJARHAT

Kolkata, Friday 31st July 2026: Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute New Town Branch to announce the launch of a comprehensive one-month-long Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program to educate the public about the importance of timely eye examinations for people living with diabetes.

India has over 100 million people living with diabetes, and an estimated more than 21 million may develop diabetic retinopathy. Without timely screening and treatment, millions are at risk of severe
vision loss. In its early stages, the disease often progresses without noticeable symptoms, making regular retinal screening essential for early detection and timely treatment. Through this campaign,
Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute (New Town) seeks to raise public awareness, encourage routine retina check-ups, and reduce avoidable vision loss from diabetes.

During the press conference, the institute’s director, Dr. Shibashis Das, MBBS, MS (Gold Medallist), Medical retina specialist, will discuss:
• The growing burden of diabetic retinopathy in India.
• The importance of annual retinal examinations for people with diabetes.
• Early warning signs and available treatment options.
• The institute’s planned awareness activities and community outreach initiatives.

The media interaction will also provide an opportunity to engage with Dr. Shibashis Das and learn about Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute’s ongoing commitment to preventing avoidable blindness through
quality eye care, early diagnosis, and public health education.
