Kolkata: Calcutta Boys’ School (CBS), one of Kolkata’s most reputed educational institutions with a distinguished legacy of academic excellence, character building, and value-based education, celebrated its Annual Speech Day and Award Ceremonies 2026 with grandeur and enthusiasm. The event recognised outstanding academic performances, creative achievements, and all-round development of students, reaffirming the institution’s commitment towards nurturing confident and responsible future leaders.
The Senior School Annual Speech Day featured inspiring performances by the CBS Choir, a multimedia presentation titled “The Year in Retrospect”, and the presentation of prestigious awards and scholarships celebrating excellence across academics and co-curricular fields. The institution honoured remarkable achievements, including Somdev Sinha Roy from the ICSE 2026 batch, who secured 99 per cent, and Devayush Podder from the ISC 2026 batch, who achieved 99 per cent.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Dr Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay, Honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, and an alumnus of Calcutta Boys’ School from the batch of 1987, who attended as the Chief Guest; Bishop Dr C. Selvin; and Mr Tamoghna Ghosh, District President, BJP North Kolkata.
Delivering the Annual Speech and Welcome Address, Mr Raja McGee, Principal and Secretary of Calcutta Boys’ School, appreciated the collective efforts of students, parents, teachers, and the entire school community in shaping the academic and personal growth of young minds. He emphasised that education extended beyond classrooms and focused on developing confidence, character, creativity, and a sense of responsibility among students.
Dr Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay, highlighted, Calcutta Boys’ School has played a significant role in shaping my journey by instilling strong values, discipline, confidence and a spirit of excellence, which continue to guide me in my professional and public life. He also share significance of “Satyameva Jayate” and expressed pride in India’s rich heritage, diverse culture, languages, literature, cuisines, and traditions. He spoke about India’s contributions across fields, including Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s literary achievements, and the country’s diverse political ideologies and democratic spirit. He also highlighted that he is the fourth alumnus of Calcutta Boys’ School to become a minister.
The ceremony concluded with a celebration of excellence, reaffirming Calcutta Boys’ School’s enduring legacy as a centre of quality education, values, cultural enrichment, and holistic student development.
