WHEN CINEMA SPEAKS FOR NATURE: ‘PINJAR’ MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY WITH A TREE PLANTATION DRIVE, TEASER LAUNCH & CULTURAL GATHERING IN KOLKATA

Internationally & Nationally acclaimed Bengali feature film transforms World Environment Day into a powerful celebration of nature, awareness, freedom and collective consciousness

Kolkata | June 2026: In an inspiring confluence of cinema, environmental awareness and cultural expression, internationally acclaimed Bengali feature film Pinjar marked World Environment Day with a special evening dedicated to nature, compassion and meaningful social dialogue.

Organised by Chasing Dreams Films in association with Bell Jar Films, the celebration at DKS Club, Kolkata brought together eminent personalities from cinema, media, culture and public life alongside the cast, crew and creative team of the much-awaited Bengali feature.

The event featured a thoughtfully curated blend of a Tree Plantation Drive, Official Teaser Launch of Pinjar, Press Meet and Environmental Awareness Initiative, reflecting the soul of a film that speaks not only about physical captivity, but also emotional confinement, human vulnerability and the longing for freedom.

Having travelled across prestigious international and national film festivals including Chicago, Montreal, London and KIFF, Pinjar has steadily drawn attention for its poetic storytelling, visually immersive treatment and emotionally layered narrative. Extending the spirit of the film beyond the screen, the World Environment Day initiative echoed themes of coexistence, healing and responsibility towards nature.

The evening witnessed the gracious presence of distinguished personalities including Dr. Swapan Dasgupta, Roopa Ganguly,Locket Chatterjee, Nandini Bhattacharjee, Sarbori Mukherjee, Abhijit Guha, Sudeshna Roy,Arjunn Dutta, Koneenica Banerjee, Debleena Dutt,Rathijit Bhattacharyya, Sreya Bhattacharyya,and Anindyo Sarkar, along with several noted guests from the fields of cinema, culture, media and social initiatives.

Members of the Pinjar cast and team including Mallika Banerjee, Sagnik Mukherjee, Ishan Mazumder, Tathagata Mukherjee, Samiul Alam, Swastidipa Rabidas and Music Director Ratul Shankar, Sound Designer Aneesh Basu along with the other cast members also remained present at the gathering.

Director Rudrajit Roy shared that Pinjar explores the invisible cages that often exist within society, relationships and human emotions. Through this initiative, the team attempted to merge cinematic storytelling with environmental consciousness, encouraging a deeper conversation around empathy, freedom and mindful coexistence.

The evening unfolded as a meaningful celebration of awareness, artistic expression and collective responsibility, followed by an interactive media session and high tea.

Produced by Chasing Dreams Films in association with Bell Jar Films, Pinjar releases theatrically on 10th July, 2026, carrying forward its internationally celebrated journey to audiences through a powerful cinematic exploration of freedom, emotional captivity and the fragile relationship between humanity and nature.
