Kolkata, June 5, 2026: HCG Cancer Hospital, Kolkata, observed World Environment Day with a sapling plantation drive at its New Town address, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship and preventive health, and highlighting the need to reduce long-term exposure to risk factors like air pollution and environmental toxins that may contribute to diseases such as cancer.
Dr Rupali Basu, RBH (East & AP), HCG Cancer Hospitals; Mr Gurvinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Centre, Kolkata; and Mr Subrata Mondal, Superintending Architect, New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), planted and watered saplings along the perimeter wall of the hospital, marking a symbolic commitment to a greener and healthier future.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rupali Basu said, “A cleaner, greener environment is a vital line of defence in reducing environmental risk factors linked to cancer and other public health concerns. Collective action towards a healthier environment can benefit entire communities. Every sapling planted today is a quiet pledge to the well-being of generations to come.”

Mr Subrata Mondal said, “Every citizen should pledge to plant at least one tree and nurture it for a year. With rising pollution, this is especially important in a place like New Town, where concrete is growing rapidly; greenery must keep pace with it.”
The programme formed part of HCG’s broader commitment to promoting health beyond hospital walls and encouraging community participation in initiatives that contribute to long-term well-being and sustainability.
