CINI initiates monthly health dialogue, Street Theatre Spotlighting NCDs and Drowning Crisis on World Health Day

Published:

Kolkata: On the occasion of World Health Day, Child in Need Institute (CINI) launched its monthly “Shubhayu Health & Wellness Dialogue” series while also organizing a powerful street theatre initiative to highlight urgent public health concerns.

The Shubhayu Dialogue Series has been conceptualized as a continuous knowledge-sharing platform to spread awareness across communities and strengthen the capacity of CINI staff through expert-led discussions. The inaugural session, “Non-Communicable Diseases: The Silent Epidemic,” focused on the rising burden of hypertension and diabetes in India, underlining the importance of prevention, early detection, and sustained care.

Extending its outreach beyond dialogue, CINI organized a compelling street play, “Ghum Bhangano Gaan,” in front of South City College, drawing attention to drowning as a silent yet critical public health crisis. The performance emphasized the urgent need for CPR awareness and timely intervention. The recent tragic drowning-linked case involving Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was highlighted as a stark reminder of how immediate CPR response can be the difference between life and death. A live CPR demonstration further engaged the audience, reinforcing practical, life-saving skills.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Arunangshu Talukdar, Professor & Head, Department of Geriatric Medicine, Medical College, Kolkata, said, “Through Shubhayu, we aim to build informed communities and promote preventive healthcare practices. On World Health Day, it is essential to recognize that geriatric care plays a crucial role in managing chronic diseases and improving quality of life.”

Echoing this vision, Dr. Samir Chaudhuri added, “Shubhayu is a step towards empowering both communities and our frontline workers with knowledge to address evolving health challenges effectively.”

Supported by Royal National Lifeboat Institution, CINI continues to strengthen community awareness and preparedness, reinforcing that timely action can save lives.
